“Growing up on the eclectic Motor City music scene, its no surprise these moody modern rockers have a sound all their own. Mixing alt rock with R&B this fierce foursome is like Aerosmith meets Lenny Kravitz” – Metromix Detroit.
The word JIVA (jee-vuh) means the living soul. For this metro Detroit based group music and soul go hand in hand. Their sound is described as “soul rock” mixing influences from retro rockers like Led Zeppelin and Lenny Kravitz, with the melodically focused sounds of R&B artists like Marvin Gay, Stevie Wonder and Prince. Their previous EP included the single Set Me Free which made its mark on FM radio in Detroit as well as college stations and FM radio across the midwest.Set Me Free also earned the band a spot in the 89X (88.7 FM) best of 2009 Homeboys show which features songs from local artists in Detroit. JIVA has been touring the midwest non stop over the last three years in support of their independently released music, winning the band a loyal following all over Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and even making their way down to Nashville Tennessee.
Now JIVA will release their first full length album titled Breathe. Recorded at Rustbelt Studios with producers Eric Hogeymeyer and Al Sutton (Kid Rock, Pop Evil, Kiss) and Pearl Sound studios with producer Chuck Alkazian (Bob Seger, Sponge, Dave Mathews Band, Royce da 5’9) The sound of the album is fresh and familiar. The tracks Crazy, and We Survivehave a Lenny Kravitz-ish R&B rock vibe while Glory, Rise and Father lean more toward ethereal textured sounds. The trackTime has a classic sound similar to Ray Lamontagne with a Motown groove and major radio hook.
